Iranians around the world are celebrating Chahar Shanbeh Soori, the pre-Islamic celebration of springtime. Marked with jumping over fires and setting off fireworks, the celebration occurs annually on the Tuesday night before the Persian New Year. This year, the holiday is March 15.
Islamic Republic authorities have prepared themselves to repress expressions of opposition on this third Tuesday after the Green Movement and the democratic opposition declared protests to demand the release of movement leaders from captivity, and to demand regime change.

Because the regime has sharply curtailed Internet and phone service as part of its overall censorship activities, news is scant so far, but there are plenty of sporadic reports that the protest movement is very much alive. Stay tuned for more news.
